Is Microblading Harmful?
Updated: Feb 4, 2019
Here we are in 2019 and there have been so many changes in the world of semi-permanent makeup, in the last 2 years alone. Microblading hit its peak about 1 year ago, and although some people still don’t know it exists, it is starting to phase out. Here’s why:
There is a high risk of scarring.
When the microblade is implanted into the skin too deep, scarring usually occurs. At Brow Me, we have gotten several clients wanting to get annual touch-ups done with work from other artists. Several of them have had scar tissue, therefore forbidding us to microblade. Microblading over scar tissue is a big no-no. We care about your skin and will never overwork it.
The results are unpredictable.
OK- some people get AHMAZING results with microblading. However, think of microblading as hundreds of small tattoos in the brow area. You can imagine that once the brows have healed, there will be at least some pigment loss. Especially when we factor in aftercare, lifestyle and the client’s skin type, we cannot guarantee or even accurately predict what the healed results will be like.
It doesn’t last.
Skin type, lifestyle and aftercare all contribute to how well or how not-so-well the crispness of hair strokes and microblading pigment will last. Oily skin rejuvenates at a faster rate and produces higher levels of sebum (excess oil), meaning microblading or any other form of semi PMU fades quicker than on someone with dry or mature skin.
It’s more painful than machine techniques.
Although we wouldn’t say microblading hurts like hell, it is more painful than other techniques. The most common response we hear is a 3-4 out of 10 whereas with other techniques it’s a 1-2 (at most).
So to sum it up... where do we stand with microblading?
It’s not for everyone. Depending on your skin type, lifestyle and simply the look you are going for, your specialist may suggest microblading, or one of our other techniques like ombré brows, powder brows or our signature brow which is a combination of microblading and shading.
Wherever you are in the world of microblading and semi-permanent makeup, Brow Me has your back. With special training and multiple certifications in microblading, ombré powder brows and luxury combination techniques, we care about your desires and needs.
